Red: Château de Gaudou, Cahors 2006
Château de Gaudou is located between Toulouse and Bordeaux on the bank of a river called Le Lot. This vineyard is near the city of Cahors, which is one of the A.O.C. (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) of the South West region. It is interesting how the fortunes of grapes and wine region can change. Not that many years ago, the wine industry in Argentina was on the ropes and no one heard of a French expat grape planted there called Malbec. Now Argentina is not only doing very well, but the popularity of its Malbec (called also Cot or Auxerrois) wines is impacting the fortunes of an ancient French wine called Cahors.
Château de Gaudou is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Malbec and 5% Tannat. It is a full and rich wine with a good grip of characteristically fine tannins. It has a deep ruby color. The nose shows flavors of black current and boysenberries flavors. It is a supple wine that seduces the palate. It will accompany well roasted pork, turkey or red meats.
