The descriptions found below are the ones our members will find with their monthly shipment of two bottles of fine wine from the French Wine Club.

Red: Château Mourgues du Gres 2006

Mourgues du Gres is located in the Languedoc region at the end of the Rhone River near the city of Nimes. The younger member of the Collard family who owns the vineyard has found a great spot for the fruit aspect of Syrah to be expressed.

Galets Rouges (Red stones cuvee) is predominantly Syrah from younger vines with Grenache, Mourvedre, and old vines Carignan making up the final blend. It is matured for 7 to 12 months in epoxy lined concrete tanks to best preserve its natural fruit. It is a very harmonious and balanced wine with soft tannins. The Galets Rouges has a deep ruby color. It has notes of cassis and black cherries intermixed with licorice and a hint of roasted herbs and earth. This wine will perfectly match meat dishes such as chicken, duck or rib steak. It can be drunk now or within the next 3 years.

White: Verve French Colombard 2007

Verve French Colombard comes from the "Domaine de Mirail", located in the heart of Gascony in southwest France. The specific site is in the Cotes de Gascogne region, and is an old, densely planted vineyard situated on a south-facing limestone and clay hillside. The grapes were harvested at night to allow for a brief period of cold skin maceration. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel, with the temperature stabilized to a very cold 59-62 degrees Fahrenheit in order to preserve the floral aromatics and fresh tropical and citrus fruit characteristics. Four months ageing on the lies adds hints of creaminess and roundness to the wine's texture, but does not mask the racy acidity typical of French Colombard from the Cotes de Gascogne.

Served well chilled, Verve French Colombard will prove a classic match with fish, oysters and other shellfish, salad or goat cheese.
