Warning: Please make sure first that the address where you would like your order delivered is in a State where such deliveries are legal. See our delivery map.

The descriptions found below are the ones our members will find with their monthly shipment of two bottles of fine wine from the French Wine Club.

Red: Mas Galtier 2004

Mas Galtier is produced in the Languedoc, near the city of Béziers. (A "Mas" in this part of France is the name used to designate a farm). Lise and Jean Carbonne are the owners of this vineyard. The Domaine was created in the middle of the 17th century under the reign of Louis XIV. It still includes a square tower and a bread oven made of stone.

The vineyard is planted in an area made of lakeside fossils as the Sea covered the domain 5 millions years ago. It has a Mediterranean climate with water deficit from the end of May to mid-August.

Mas Galtier is made of 60% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 30% Carignan. It has a beautiful ruby-red color, a very attractive nose with red fruits and hints of the local "garrigue" (scrubland). You will no doubt feel the raspberry flavor in this attractive wine. It is a wine to enjoy on its own or with grilled meats. Aging potential 3 to 5 years.

White: Pinot Blanc Réserve 2004

Macon-Prisse is produced by Domaine Delaye in one of the 43 Villages that produce Chardonnay in the Maconnais region. Most Americans are familiar with Pouilly-Fuisse, which is produced in the same area. These wines are representative of white Burgundy.

The wine is produced from long golden clusters of Chardonnay grapes (not tightly packed) that produce a rich and sweet white clear juice. The acidity is good when young, but softens with aging up to 6 years.

This 100% Chardonnay should be served cool. It goes well with hors d'oeuvres: snails, mussels, medium fleshed fish and goat cheese. Macon-Prisse is characteristically dry and easy to drink. It is fruity and flowery with hints of acacia, locust and hawthorn aromas. It is a spontaneous wine with tenderness and supportive acidity at the same time.
