The descriptions found below are the ones our members will find with their monthly shipment of two bottles of fine wine from the French Wine Club.
Red: Chateau Segonzac Cru Bourgeois 2003
Year after year, Chateau Segonzac has received excellent reviews for the quality of its wine. It was created in 1887, when the winery achieved the status of "Cru Bourgeois" due to the quality of its soil and wines (this term designates wines of Medoc, not classified but of very good quality). Chateau Segonzac is located 30 miles north of the city of Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Gironde River (opposite Appellation St Julien). The vineyard currently stretches over slightly more than 30 hectares (74 acres) on a sunny slope looking straight down to the Gironde River.
Chateau Segonzac is a blend made of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. It is aged in small barrels for 12 months. This wine has a garnet color and an aroma redolent of red fruits, cedar, coffee and earth. On the palate there is dark, tart cherry and raspberry. Its tannins and acidity are nicely balanced and beautifully blended.
Drink it now, perhaps with a bit of breathing to encourage its opening, or hold it for 2 to 3 years.

White: Domaine de Raissac 2004
The Domaine de Raissac is located near the city of Beziers, in the heart of Languedoc. Wines have been produced at Raissac since Gallo-Roman times. The winery has been in the same hands since 1828, covering six generations, with the tradition being carried on today by Cecile and Gustave Viennet.
This wine is made with one type of grape: the Muscat Petit Grains, picked at a normal ripeness to ensure the dryness of the wine. In the Domaine's wine cellar, this wine is drawn off at low temperature, and stabilized for fermentation.
In a glass, its solid yellow color shines with gleams of white copper. Without exuberance, the nose wins in complexity, exhaling subtle elegant fragrances of ripe fruits, bergamot, royal jelly, and a few notes of mineral scent.
In the mouth, this exceptionally gifted Muscat takes volume and starts with vivacity and roundness. The powerful aroma lines your palate with pear, grilled almonds and licorice flavors. The whole process, underlined by the freshness of crystallized lemon and stewed quinces, takes time before finishing delicately and within a balanced harmony.
