Red: Domaine de Regusse 2005, Pinot Noir

When looking for a good Pinot Noir in France, you will typically look at a Burgundy. Be ready to spend some money to get an Aloxe Corton or a Vosne Romanee... But I am always looking at other regions of production, and discovered Domaine de Regusse. It is located in the area of Haute Provence, at the beginning of the Luberon Mountain, 50 miles North of Marseille. The estate spreads over 741 acres, at an altitude of 1500 feet.

The vineyard is planted with 20 different grape varieties, which allow a wide range of products. In 2004 the estate obtained the certification "Viticulture Raisonnee Controlee" which aims to:
- Improve the quality of the wines by improving the quality of the grapes,
- Guarantee quality products and food safety to the consumer,
- Respect the environment, the terroir, the heritage and the local traditions.

This 100% Pinot Noir aged in oak barrel is rich, supple and smooth in the mouth, dominated by blackberry, cherry, and raspberry fruits, with a soft finish and a good length. Enjoy it with grilled meat or game.

White: Laurent Miquel 2006, Chardonnay

The Miquel family has been running their estate since the French Revolution (1789), when they took over the running from the local monks at Fontcaude. Laurent Miquel is based at the Chateau Cazal Viel, the family estate in the St Chinian appellation part of the Languedoc. Laurent Miquel is following in his father's footsteps and continuing the tradition of wine making and vineyard management.

This Chardonnay 2006 is delicious, fruity and flavorful. It is aged 70% in oak barrels (2/3 new, 1/3 old) for 5 months. Enjoy the vibrant fruit flavors, with notes of vanilla and spice, as an aperitif or with seafood, chicken dishes or salads.
