Red: Château des Matards, Bordeaux, Premières Côtes de Blaye 2003
Located on the right bank of the fabulous Gironde Estuary, opposite the famous vines of Médoc, the Côte de Blaye forms a triangle of vineyards between Blaye, Sainte-Savin and Saint-Ciers-sur-Gironde.
The Château des Matards belong to the Terrigeol family. It is on a privileged site with sandy, lime soils dominating the magnificent estuary. The grapes on the South-facing slopes are packed with natural sugar thanks to a perfect exposure to the sun. It is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a vivid purple color. The nose is intense with red fruit aromas and hints of blackberries. It is a well-balanced wine with medium tannins and long after taste.
Château des Matards is ready to drink, or can be kept 7 to 10 years.

White: Mâcon-Vinzelles Bourgogne 2005
Macon-Vinzelles is produced a few kilometers South of the city of Macon. The first mention of vine growing in the Macon area is by the 4th century Roman poet Ausonius, but it was Cistercian monks who, in the 11th and 12th centuries, established the Maconnais as a wine region. True recognition came a little later when, in 1660, a grower by the name of Claude Brosse traveled to Versailles (a 33-day journey in those days) with two casks of his wine. Arriving just as Mass was being said, he immediately kneeled but, being a head taller than the rest of the congregation, he caught the attention of the King who thought he was still sitting. The subsequent meeting and the monarch's tasting of the wine led to regular shipments to the court from then on.
The Macon-Vinzelles is a 100 % Chardonnay. It has notes of citrus and spice with mineral flavors. This wine is well integrated. It is complex, rich and medium-bodied, with fruit that is extremely well balanced. It has a well defined depth, a silky texture, a bit of acidity and a clean, crisp hazelnut finish.
Serve it with fish or chicken with wild mushrooms and white wine sauce.
