Red: Les Clefs Corbieres 2003

Domaine de la Pique Rouge has been owned and cultivated by Claudette and Pierre Hodara since 1975. It is an appellation Corbieres part of the Languedoc. The vineyard is the highest in elevation, ranging from 350 to 520 meter on the side of the Pyrenees Mountains. The grapes benefit from the Mediterranean climate that moderate the extreme temperatures.

This Rhone-style red has aromas of red berries, spice and dry herbs. It is made of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache. On the palate it shows good fruitiness with the red berry flavors and a racy spiciness. The tannins are definitely there but softened for immediate enjoyment. It is a medium bodied wine with a clean finish. It can age between 5 and 7 years.

White: Sauvignon 2005 Vin de Pays d'Oc

I very rarely offer a wine that has not been crafted by an independent producer. This is such an exception. This Sauvignon Blanc is made by a cooperative called "Cave de Pomerols". It is located between the garrigue of Pezenas and the Mediterranean Sea, dominated by the Mont St Clair near the city of Sete.

It is sold under the name of vin de Pays d'Oc, which is known on the map as Languedoc.

This 100% Sauvignon Blanc has a crystal pale yellow color. It combines the cut and bright fruit of a Sancerre with the ripe fruit of the sunny Languedoc. Lemongrass, honeydew, and thyme flavors are packed into this dry, unoaked gem. It is a perfect match for Sea scallops and lobster.
