Warning: Please make sure first that the address where you would like your order delivered is in a State where such deliveries are legal. See our delivery map.

The descriptions found below are the ones our members will find with their monthly shipment of two bottles of fine wine from the French Wine Club.

Red: Domaine de la Pique Rouge 2003

The Domaine de la Pique Rouge is located in the Languedoc, precisely in the Corbières Appellation, near the city of Narbonne. This vineyard has been owned by Claudette and Pierre Hodara since 1975. The 10 Hectares vineyard (24.70 acres) is the highest in elevation of all the Pyrénées mountains, ranging from1050 to 1560 feet.

The grapes benefit from the Mediterranean climate that moderates extreme temperatures common in the South of France. This allows them to produce wines with a better balance and finesse.

Domaine de la Pique Rouge is a blend made of 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 10% Carignan. This Rhône-style wine has aromas of red berries, spices and dry herbs. On the palate it shows good fruitiness. The tannins are there but softened for immediate enjoyment. It is a medium bodied with a nice clean finish. Aging 5 to 7 years.

White: Cheverny 2003

Cheverny is a small town located in the Loire Valley. It is about 15 miles South from the city of Blois. It is also the site of one of the most renown and most beautiful castles of the Loire Valley (shown on the bottle label). I had the pleasure to work there 35 years ago, serving a banquet in the king's hunting trophy room, set up in 1610. The Cheverny castle still maintains 250 hunting dogs for the famed “Chasse à courre” (hunt with dogs)!

Pascal Bellier is the producer of this unusual Cheverny, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc 80% and Chardonnay 20%. It is a dry wine with great aromas, notes of black currant and reglisse. Cheverny needs to be drunk in its youth. It goes well with seafood, fish, and delicatessen.
