Warning: Please make sure first that the address where you would like your order delivered is in a State where such deliveries are legal. See our delivery map.

The descriptions found below are the ones our members will find with their monthly shipment of two bottles of fine wine from the French Wine Club.

Red: Syrah Guilhem Durand 2007

The Syrah from Guilhem Durand comes from the Corbieres region near the city of Perpignan. It is a "vin de Pays de Hauterive". French law does not allow the varietal to be noted in conjunction with the appellation.

The vineyard is located in a mountainous area with a soil made of quartz and large pebbles. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and left on fine lees for 4 months prior to bottling.

It is a complex wine that will pair with strong cheeses, braised meat, and even well seasoned grilled poultry. In 2007, Guilhem Durand outdid even his usually exemplary performanceŠ the wine is wonderfully concentrated. It displays brown spices, sweetly-ripe cassis, black cherry and purple plum that retain a refreshing brightness.

White: Château Doisy-Daene 2004

One of the most ambitiously and innovately-run estate in Bordeaux, Doisy-Daene produces a very fine Barsac that seems to be undervalued in the scheme of Barsac/Sauternes realities. Denis Dubourdieu crafted this light-bodied white Bordeaux with refreshment in mind.

This bracingly fresh Sauvignon Blanc is one of the best dry white of the Bordeaux area. It shows distinction and finesse. It has quite powerful aromas of grapefruit and white peach.  It also has mineral notes and flavors of pears and spices. This is a delicious wine when drunk young but it can be kept up to 10 years.
