The descriptions found below are the ones our members will find with their monthly shipment of two bottles of fine wine from the French Wine Club.

Red: Château Haut Barreyre 2005

Château Haut Barreyre is produced in the “Premières Côtes de Bordeaux”. This is a long strip of land on the east side of the Garonne River, facing the Graves region. This Château has been producing wine for almost 3 centuries, which makes it the oldest vineyard of the Bordeaux region.

The winters are hard there, but very hot summers help produce healthy grapes with excellent maturity and concentration for harvest time. Château Haut Barreyre is a blend of 77% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc. It has a clean, vivid, rich color. The nose is beautifully aromatic, carrying hints of cinnamon and hay. On the palate it is round and very well balanced, mouth-filling with good complexity. It is a rich wine yet elegant. The finish is soft.

Château Barreyre has a good cellar potential 3 to 5 years.

White: Château Landereau 2006

In the heart of the Bordeaux region, Baylet Vineyards are located on the “Entre-deux-mers” hill sides, famous for their mix of clay and gravel soil. It is an association of three Châteaux: Landereau, Puy Marceau and l'Hostel Blanc. They enjoy a muggy climate, favorable to growing vines.

Château Landereau is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. They are the grapes used to make the famous Sauternes dessert wine. But in this case it is a dry wine, resulting from the grape variety Sauvignon Blanc, which gives it its flavor, acidity and freshness. The Sémillon component adds the fruity taste.

This is a wine to enjoy young.
