Red: Château de Braude, Haut-Médoc 2001
Régis Bernaleau bought Ch&âteau de Braude in the 1980s, replanting parts of the vineyard that had not produced fruit since the phylloxera blight in the 19th century. Most of the land lies within the Margaux area. However, he reserves the Margaux name for Château Mongravey, a line he created when he consolidated several small holdings. Six hectares are planted with the classic Bordeaux varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon predominating to give wines of great fruit intensity and exceptional finesse.
Château de Braude is a blend of 45% Merlot and 55% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a powerful aroma of fruits (black currant and berries) with spicy oak tones. On the palate this wine is round and balanced with a great structure of fruit, oak and tannin. It can be kept 7 to 10 years.

White: Château Gaillard, TouraineMeslan 2004
Château Gaillard is located in the Loire valley at equal distance from the cities of Blois and Tours. It is owned by Vincent Girault a wine maker who likes to innovate. White wines of the Loire, both dry and sweet, have an appealing simplicity. The landscape is just as understated as the wines, with a rich countryside.
In Touraine and Anjou, the heartland of the Loire, vines are found in every village connected to the river or one of its tributaries. Generally speaking, the bodies of water provide the right microclimate needed to help the fruit ripen at such northerly latitude.
The grapes are all taken off, and then softly and directly pressed. Fermentation is at 16 degrees, extraction before the end of alcoholic fermentation in order to preserve residual sugar. It is bred in vats, on thin lees.
The blend is interesting as a 70% Chenin Blanc and 30% Chardonnay. It is golden yellow with green hints. The nose brings in a fresh wine that enhances aromas of quince and honey. On the palate it is crisp and subtle with good acid support ends with a lingering finish. It is at its best with fish dishes and aperitif.
